BRA would like to extend an invitation to retailers to join us for the BRA Retail Summit 5 in San Juan, Puerto Rico - April 30th – May 4th, 2008. All members of the association, including retailers, manufacturers and vendors who are Associate Members, are encouraged to attend. The attendee list is growing, the agenda, comprised of a mix of surf, skate and snow related presentations and roundtables has been released, the activities confirmed and the surfboards shipped. The only thing missing is you!
BRA will provide a unique educational opportunity for board sport retailers as well as panel discussions with manufacturers on issues facing the action sports industry.

The BRA Retail Summit, designed for specialty board sport retailers, includes State of the Industry presentations by Global Wave Ventures, ActionWatch, the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) and SnowSports Industries America (SIA). In addition, retailers will have the opportunity to participate in discussions with each other on topics such as skateboard merchandising, surfboard selling techniques, driving web traffic to an e-commerce site and marketing. The goal of the Retail Summit is to provide like-minded specialty board sport retailers from across the country the opportunity to get together for three days to focus on issues facing our niche market. In addition to the obvious benefits - sun and surf - this year's Retail Summit will address a variety of issues facing the board sport retail industry.

2008 Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge
Now in its fifth incarnation of the new millennium, the ultimate surf shop team challenge is coming to a beach near you this summer. From Kewalos to Sebastian Inlet, with four regional events and a $10,000 winner-take-all championship scheduled to coincide with the San Diego ASR Trade Show in September, the Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge is once again ready to showcase brilliant local talent.
Last year, it was San Diego’s Hansen’s Surf that took the coveted grand prize. So far, Heritage Surf and Sport won the Northeast Region held at Casino Pier, Seaside Heights, NJ.
The competition will be fierce as more than 100 teams compete across four regions for a chance to take the glory home for their shop. If that’s not motivation enough, the winning team from each of the four regions (South Carolina to Maine, Texas to Georgia, all of California, and Hawaii) gets to duke it out for the overall title during the Championships this September for a $10,000 winner-take-all prize purse and a full-page color ad in SURFER Magazine!

This summer 3rd Lair will be hosting our 2nd annual contest series, dubbed the ‘Summer Series’ at various skateparks in Minnesota. Points will be given to each competitor based on their final standing at each contest. Results, Standings and cumulative point totals of every competitor will be kept track of on the official ‘Summer Series’ website via www.3rdlair.com. The competitors with the most points at the end of the 14 event contest series will be the winner! There will be 3 overall points winners crowned - beginner, intermediate and expert.
Winners of each division at each contest will receive a ‘Golden Ticket’ to the Midwest Melee - held at the 3rd Lair at the end of the summer on the weekend of August 8th – 10th. This ‘Golden Ticket will put them directly into the finals of the Midwest Melee.
