WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (July 29, 2008) – In response to Surf Expo’s press release titled “Surf Expo Shifts Show Dates To Serve Industry Needs,” the Board Retailers Association (BRA) would like to commend both Surf Expo and ASR for working together to select tradeshow dates that best accommodate industry participants for January and September 2009. As the pre-eminent retail association in the board sport industry, it is imperative to BRA’s membership that tradeshows work together to ensure maximum participation from exhibitors, while also ensuring that the show timing makes sense for buyers.
“The tradeshows are extremely important venues to retailers like myself. It would be great if those companies that are no longer attending the shows would realize that retailers often prefer to see manufacturers there, rather than in the store during the peak season,” said Steve Carlson of Central Coast Surfboards. “At the end of the day, we all want efficient and comprehensive tradeshows to maximize our limited time and energy.”
BRA will continue to work closely with ASR and Surf Expo to maintain an open dialogue and ensure that retailer’s needs are best met through scheduled dates and exhibitor attendance. We appreciate the continued support the tradeshows have given BRA and specialty retailers in particular. We look forward to continuing our mutually beneficial relationship.
“In our current economic environment, it is important that the industry works together to accommodate all of our needs. We attend the tradeshows to see manufacturers, so it is important to have as many of them there as possible,” said Greg Bennett, owner of Birthday Suits.
BRA recognizes the diverse pressures on the tradeshow schedule from various sectors of the board sport industry. At the heart of the matter however is retail attendance. We hope that the industry will work together to remain cohesive and productive for the benefit of all.
