Quiksilver will not exhibit at ASR Trade Show

Quiksilver has decided not to exhibit at the ASR Trade Show in January 2009 in San Deigo, California. Although the company has expressed support for the show, they can’t justify the cost of exhibiting in this economy with their current debt and low stock prices. Preliminary reports are that Roxy will also be absent from the show floor but that DC will remain as an exhibitor. All three – Quiksilver, Roxy and DC – will be at the Surf Expo Trade Show in January 2009 in Orlando, Florida.

On a similar note, Reef will be at the ASR show but they do not plan to exhibit on the main show floor.

  1. Despite Quiksilver pulling out, some 425 other brands will be on hand, including Billabong, Volcom, DC Shoes, O’Neill, Rusty, Element, Rip Curl, Matix, DVS, Zoo York, NHS, Dwindle, Fox Head, and DaKine, along with several up-and-coming brands.

ASR, for their part, has created interesting new dynamics with the Gold Box Mission over the last few years for up-and-coming brands, skate event areas and competitions. Their new updated website reflects a much more user-friendly and progressive vibe.

In many ways, Quiksilver pulling out of ASR in January indicates many changes, and not just the difficult economy. You could look at it as a sign of the times for making change—for brands to reinvent themselves or for trade shows to be more focused on the networking and educational aspects.
