If you haven’t had a chance to attend this annual event we share with the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) we can not encourage you enough to set aside the dates for 2014. Each May over 250 leaders in the surf industry gather to tackle industry issues, network, and be inspired.
Surf Summit mornings are free time. Surf time, fishing time, golf time. After lunch we get to business. If listening to The Zoo’s (Google and YouTube’s Agency) Director move us with branding stories and technology of the future. Or about the future of the ASP from CEO Paul Speaker. And after speakers we set to roundtable discussions where the top issues facing the industry are tackled by manufacturers, retailers and service providers alike. That kind of stuff is what you take home to your business.
Evenings are spent with cocktails and group dinners. Opening ceremony we were inspired to “Find a Way” by ESPN’s and former NFL star Merril Hoge. And the closing ceremony brought Martin “Pottz” Potter back to interview some of surfing’s greatest legends – Taylor Knox, Sunny Garcia and Greg Long, who spoke in public for the first time about his near-death experience at Cortes Bank… there’s a reason we don’t videotape the events. They’re special.
Board Retailers Association members get a steep discount to attend the event. And if you still can’t make it work, perhaps a brand will sponsor your trip. After all, the collaboration is what makes Surf Summit more important than ever. The more retailers we bring on board, the better the dynamic. Let us know if you’re interested in attending next May.
