BRA and The SIA Snow Show | Why We Go

This year’s Snow Show is set for January 28 – February 3 in Denver Colorado, and our friends over at Snowsports Industries America (SIA) gave us the head’s up that hotel blocks are selling out fast. If you’re still finalizing your plans to attend, we’re here to give you the scoop on two new features SIA has added to help you stay ahead in this fast moving industry. But those are just two reasons, of about 100, why we go to SIA’s Snow Show. Check them out – and a few more – below: It’s all about the data. And the world’s most concentrated and authentic trade event in the snow sports industry certainly has the most thorough and useful industry intelligence with an incredible lineup of speakers, seminars and roundtables. SIA is launching a new element called Industry + Intelligence at this year’s Snow Show (January 28, 2015) to give your staff insight on the latest consumer behavior, retail data, digital marketing and social media trends and keynote speaker Amy Purdy, 2014 Paralympic Medalist, Actress and Author will be sharing her inspiring story and passion for snow sports. As a non-profit trade association representing over 3,500 action front storefronts across the country, it’s important for us to have a presence on the show floor. Not only are snow sports products are integral to action sport retail—over 40% of our members and over 75% of our Board members carry snow hardgoods. We could tell you how important it is for you to attend, but it makes way more sense for you to hear it from retailers themselves. Lucky for...

SIA and BRA Announce Partnership

Wilmington, NC (Jan. 22, 2014) – Not long before its 2014 Snow Show takes place in Denver, SnowSports Industries America (SIA) announced today an official partnership with Board Retailers Association (BRA), the non-profit trade association representing more than 600 action sports retailers in the surf, skate, snow, wake, kite, wind and stand-up paddle industries. In addition to a presence on the Show floor to provide information and assistance to independent ski and snowboard shops attending the event, BRA will host a Board of Directors meeting during the Show. “Over 40 percent of our members, and about 75 percent of our Board members carry snow hardgoods and/or softgoods, said BRA Co-Chairperson Bruce Cromartie, long-time Snow Show attendee and co-owner of BC Surf and Sport. “The annual Show is integral to our business. Our team is busy all four days and then we attend the On-Snow Demo.” BRA has exhibited at the Show for the past two years. Making the partnership official will provide both non-profit groups the opportunity to cross-promote its services to the other through membership outreach at the show, through their respective websites and through social media channels. SIA will also assist BRA in its research efforts. “BRA has been a great SIA partner and we are excited to make it official,” said David Ingemie, SIA president. “Snow sports products are integral to action sport retail and the Board Retailers Association does a great job representing that mutual interest.” BRA is recharging its efforts with several new Board members to be appointed in 2014 and events like its Retailer Town Halls held earlier this month. Member-owned, industry-inspired and...

MAGIC has been great for BRA

We had a great first couple of days at MAGIC! As Day Three begins, I see a lot of people trudging along aimlessly with coffee, in sunglasses, on the floor. Last night included several different sponsored parties for the 40,000+ retailers in attendance here, including the S.L.A.T.E party at Haze at Aria. Good times always abound – this is Vegas after all! We started off on Monday with a ton of our members and surf and skate manufacturers checking in at our booth in S.L.A.T.E., which was outfitted with blown-up shots of our members’ shops and decked out with assorted denim-covered cubes for lounging– Sweetwater and ZJs to name two of them. Retailers and manufacturers alike are abuzz with talks of change, and new direction. Also the news of uprising in Lybia, of course the earthquake that rocked the entire east coast from North Carolina to Ohio, and Hurricane Irene who is set to hit the east coast, hopefully not before the Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships presented by Vans and a week too early to send a 15-foot swell to Long Beach, NY for the Quiksilver Pro. We all like a nice south swell but we hope everyone is safe this week! We co-hosted our first-ever BRA seminar at MAGIC on Monday at 1pm. Co-Chairman Duke Edukas lead a discussion with Primitive’s Jay Partow and Chuck Morrow of Ambush. How to Shop MAGIC was the subject, and I also was asked to speak about some of the benefits of BRA. The overwhelming sentiment by those in attendance? The networking and camaraderie, and the potentially business-altering ideas and...

BRA CONTINUES TO SERVE SPECIALTY ACTION SPORT RETAIL INTERESTS AMIDST CHANGES TO TRADESHOW SCHEDULE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Melissa Clary (BRA) Company: Board Retailers Association (BRA) Phone: 910.509.7475  x. 1005 Email: melissa@boardretailers.org Website: www.boardretailers.org BRA CONTINUES TO SERVE SPECIALTY ACTION SPORT RETAIL INTERESTS AMIDST CHANGES TO TRADESHOW SCHEDULE SURF, SKATE AND SNOW RETAIL REMAIN HEALTHY AS INDUSTRY GEARS UP FOR BIG HOLIDAY SEASON It is with great fondness in our hearts, and enthusiasm for what the future holds, that the Board Retailers Association (BRA) announces a change in the action sport industry tradeshow landscape on the West Coast. Since 1981, the Action Sports Retailer Trade Expo (ASR) has been the centralized location for the surf and skate manufacturing and retail community. Nielson Media, the parent company of ASR, announced yesterday that Action Sports Retailer has ceased operations and will be cancelling all upcoming tradeshows including January 2011. “The cancellation of ASR is certainly bittersweet for me,” said BRA Co-Chair and Co-Owner of Surfside Sports, Duke Edukas. “On one hand, an iconic tradeshow that has helped retailers like myself build their shop over the years is gone, and on the other hand, our industry has the opportunity to design an event format that meets the needs of our modern day business models.” As an industry partner with ASR, BRA has been heavily involved in this decision, and has worked closely with ASR over the years, as well as SIMA and IASC, to meet the demands of a changing industry. This includes mass shifts in manufacturing production schedules, technological and product developments, an increased need for retail-focused educational programs, and the addition of Class@ASR, Crossroads and Sacred Craft. As the action sports industry continued to...
